In addition to feeling good about the money you spend on Navajo Co-op purchases, you can be assured you will be getting the highest quality authentic Southwest and Native American art. The majority of our products are handmade by Native American artisans who we know and have worked with for years.

We invest time and effort to develop successful relationships with our artists. In addition to paying mutually agreed upon, fair prices for our products, we try to help the artists develop better business skills. Helping achieve this sort of self-sufficiency is at the core of economic development projects at the Navajo Co-op.

How do your purchases help?

Profits from our sales support health, literacy and economic development programs at The Gathering Place. In just the past year we have provided over 1,000 home visits to at-risk mothers on the Navajo Reservation.

Our Playpen program, which focuses on developing valuable parenting skills among young and inexperienced parents, has served more than 400 families. We have provided over 400 clients with literacy training and take-home materials to increase the time parents and children spend reading together.

Additionally, The Gathering Place's Parents as First Teachers program got underway this year. The program focuses on providing needed family resources such as GED education, job training skills, early childhood development training and general literacy development.

• A donation allows our lay Health workers to do home visits with at-risk mothers on the Reservation.

• A donation supports our Family Literacy project as we help parents teach their children to read while helping themselves become better parents.

• A donation supports the continuation of Economic Development projects through the Navajo Co-op
